Maceo In Memoriam
Maceo would have been 11 this month, which is why I feel he should be remembered now. Maceo was one of the truest friends any human could ask for in life. He was sweet, kind, fun, and just a little bit naughty. Everyone he encountered remembered his fun, humorous spirit. People always held a piece of him in their heart when they left for he had a lot of love to give. He was an avid swimmer, frisbee catcher and squirrel chaser. He loved to snack on his favorite tree at Fresh Pond. He was also an entrepreneur. He is the Dog behind the Bowchies brand. If it was not for him there would be many unfashionable dogs in the world. When he was not in creative meetings with his pack at the park, or staring at his main worker (me) from his purple chair, he was giving back his time. He volunteered with Caring Canines along side his Hu-Mom (me again), as a visiting therapy dog. He loved every minute of it. He especially loved his visits with the children at the Devotion School. That was his number one favorite visit (and it wasn’t because they tossed him cheerios, either!) Maceo passed away at home one night in late September while I was in the hospital having an emergency appendectomy. He had succumbed to Hemangiosarcoma, a rare, rapidly growing, highly invasive variety of cancer. He had survived bone cancer and had thrived after getting his front left leg amputated just 6 months prior. He even jumped in the car one week after losing the leg. But the blood cancer was too much for him. At least it was swift and he died at home. Maceo was loved by many and will be missed by all. My heart aches thinking about my best friend. I miss him every minute of every day. I wanted to thank everyone who sent cards, flowers and emails. Thanks for being his friend and I hope those who knew him would live their life like he did…with a smile, a wag, and love.
